Ranthambore,
one of Indias foremost wildlife park is located near the town of Sawai
Madhour about 180 kms from Jaipur in Rajasthan. Nestling in the foothills of
Aravalli Ranges, the Park is a notable Tiger Reserve under Project Tiger. It
was established as a sanctuary in 1959 and finally in 1981 it got the
recognition of a National Park. The park is famous for sighting a tiger in
its natural habitat around lakes and ponds, one can also encounter prey and
predators, indulging in their daily activity. Ranthambor blends glorious

» Tigers :
Ranthambore is a home to the Royal Bengal Tiger of India. The tiger kingdom is dominant here. This majestic beast, symbol of power, can be sighted very easily. The park abode 25 tigers and 40 leopards along with a large population of bouncing herbivores. One can cherished the sight of this magnificent mammal in its varied moods, with the eternal passion. The Great Indian Tigers can easily be accessed at the lake site, Padam Talab, Raj Bagh , Milak Talab are the favorite spot for these water lovers.

Other attractions are large number of sambar, nilgai, chinkara, Indian hare, monitor lizarda , chital, mongoose accompanied by numerous carnivores leopard, jungle cat, jackal, bear and large number of reptiles.
» Water Bodies and Birds :
The park also abode copious variety of birds and water bodies, including great Indian horned owl, eagle, tapered serpent, quail, and paradise flycatcher. Black stork, necked stork can also be seen near the water holes.
SafariThe best way to hunt the wild treasures of Ranthambhore is through Jeep safari elephant safari. Jeep is the best means to explore the Royal Tiger in their natural habitat. The animals can also be viewed through open roofed canters (small trucks) that cater 20 people at a time. Rides into the forest are very safe with open jeeps, as wild animals are quite habitual to human presence.
Best time to visit
Ranthambhore Wildlife Sanctuary can be visited in the month of October and June. During summer the wilds are captivated towards the waterholes and give the better chance of viewing the animals. The best times to view wildlife is during the early hours of dawn and in the evenings, fixed by the forest department as there are reasonably good chance of encountering a tiger.

Sawai-Madhopur 12 km. is the nearest railhead, which is on the Bombay-Delhi section of Western Railway.

Ranthambore is well connected by regular means of bus transport to Sawai-Madhopur 12 km, Jaipur 180km, Bharatpur 166km and Agra 226 km. Horse-carts( tongas), are available at the Railway Station. R.T.D.C. One can also get the Jeeps on rent from Tourist Information Bureau, Sawai-Madhopur.
